Union Chapel Rd Extension Opens Properties
On November 1st the City's Engineering Dept. opened up the Union Chapel Road extension project that expanded the thoroughfare from east 166th Street to State Road 32 as a four-lane divided roadway with center median, curb & gutter and multi-use trails. Construction of the nearly one-mile road includes up to five roundabouts as well as a new bridge over Stony Creek and increases the ease of north & south travel on the east side of town.
One of the highlights of this project is the extension of both Town & Country Blvd. and Pleasant St. eastward to meet Union Chapel. By opening up Pleasant St. and increasing the flow and connectivity of the area new properties have been added to our list of available land. What is unique to this newly expanded industrial space is that the requirements such as outdoor storage, building materials, etc are less restrictive than some of our other industrial space in places such as the Corporate Campus or along State Road 32. This opens up Noblesville land to new types of manufacturing and business uses. Visit our website for an aerial map of the area and look for the properties to appear soon on Noblesville Prospector.
Noblesville Workforce Development
The Noblesville Community Vision for Excellence task force led by Detlef Rathmann and located in Noblesville City Hall, has recently taken action to establish a Workforce Development Council consisting of Noblesville Business, Education, and City Government representation. The Noblesville Economic Development Dept. has been heralding this initiative for quite some time and is excited to move forward.
The mission is to prepare a Noblesville workforce that embodies the skill sets (social, academic, technical and business) needed to positively contribute to today’s business environment. It also includes re-engaging individuals whose skill sets are no longer in demand as well as individuals who return to Noblesville upon realizing that formal post-secondary education is not for them. The Workforce Development Council’s objective is to also understand Noblesville employer needs for their respective workforce and to identify and create the means to facilitate those required skill sets and knowledge.

Nickel Plate Arts Trail Groundbreaking
On October 26th the City of Noblesville met with the Hamilton County Convention & Visitors Bureau (HCCVB) along with other community partners at the Judge Stone House on the corner of 8th St and Maple Ave. It was a celebration for the beginning of the restoration work that will transform the Judge Stone House and the Stephenson House directly to the south into the Nickel Plate Arts Trail teaching and cultural center.
The City has not simply been a spectator in this project but has collaborated with the HCCVB to incorporate 2012 CDBG funds to finance a streetscape project along the west side of the entire block which will include plantings and traffic calming elements. These funds will also assist in the public gathering space that will connect these two properties in order to create a cohesive campus. Lastly the City also purchased a trailer lot further south on the block which it will turn into a Low Impact Development Association-guided parking lot for additional downtown parking as well as event space for the Nickel Plate campus. Check out our website as the project develops under the Community Development section.
